About Me
If by some chance someone finds this blog and decides they are motivated enough to want to learn about the man who writes these rough, unorganized posts, I guess I should oblige them by writing this “About Me” page.
I will start by saying I never really understood “About Me” pages in general. All they really are the product of the selfish thought that “people want to know about me, so I better tell them about myself, hehe!” But then relating back to the first sentence on this page, I realize that people exist for people, so I shall let you know about myself, because this is the main reason I really write, for people…for you.
Currently, I’m in my second year of college striving for a degree in Computer Science. Before I move on I want to clarify something: just because it has “computer” in the name, that does not mean I am an IT specialist. That is not what Computer Science is, even though most of us in the field do know how to fix a computer or “make it faster,” not all of us will know. Figured I would get that out there. Anyway, I am in Computer Science because I get so much enjoyment and use out of the things it brings to the people, like all computer programs and video games. I want to be able to contribute to the making of such things so I can have an impact on people, even if I’m not directly recognized for it.
In addition to being in college, I am part of a fraternity on my campus. Joining a fraternity was the single best decision I have ever made. No matter what you see in the movies or TV shows that portray fraternities, there is no way anyone can truly understand what fraternity life truly is unless they experience it themselves. The guys in my fraternity are truly brothers to me and have gotten me through quite a bit even in the relatively small time I’ve known them. If you are in college or are going to be in the near future, whether male or female, rich or poor, nerd or jock, please consider going Greek.
According to society, I am a very smart guy. I have a great GPA and an amazing IQ (according to the random tests I’ve taken online). I don’t like the “smart” measurement though. I much prefer “intelligence’ because there are so many types of intelligence. I believe I am very logically intelligent, which attributes to me being considered “smart,” but there is so much more than that which makes a person. I even wrote a post about the “Nine Types of Intelligence” (http://bloggersden.org/blogs/ryan/nine-types-of-intelligence/). Logical intelligence is the only one I excel at. The only other intelligences I believe I have moderate ability in is: interpersonal, intra-personal, existential (but who really knows?), and linguistic intelligence. Of course this is from my point of view, who knows what everyone else thinks, but I don’t much care.
As far as my personality goes, I consider myself kind, hot-tempered, loyal, driven, lazy, hopeful, cynical, outgoing, shy, and any other personality trait you can think of. I say these contradictions because putting someone’s, especially your own, personality into words is truly impossible. To truly understand a person you have to have social contact with the individual. A person’s personality is also relative to the person analyzing it and under what circumstances they saw the individual. I may seem selfish and stubborn to many people, but if anyone wants my help, I will almost always help them. Remember, I believe “people exist for people.” I am odd in a way because I care about people so much, yet I distance myself by never trying to explain who I am. I view my personal life as who I truly am and how I became the person I am today, not my current relationships or what I am currently doing in my life. The only way others get to know my personal life is when I write because I go off on tangents about things such as life or my feelings towards certain topics, revealing more than I would in a one-on-one conversation. That is why I enjoy writing, because I don’t plan my writing, I just sit down and type as fast as I can think. It is moments such as right now when I’m writing this sentence that I can be by myself and express my true thoughts and feelings, but then I click a button and an entire world of people can see who I am. And as you are reading this, my phrase “people exist for people” comes alive, because you allow me to express myself, and I entertain you with my thoughts and feelings on who-knows-what. Right now, I am existing for you, and you are existing for me…remember that.
